The wooden toy range marks the first time the toymaker has collaborated with a major construction manufacturer

Volvo CE and toymaker BRIO have joined forces to launch a new range of wooden construction toys aimed at aspiring young construction engineers. It is the first time the toymaker has collaborated with a major construction manufacturer.

As part of BRIO Builder’s newest range, Volvo CE-themed mini machines will be available from Autumn 2022. Among the additions is a construction system featuring a wheel loader, hauler, and excavator, designed in collaboration with Volvo CE to ensure a close resemblance to their real counterparts.

At the 2022 Construction Machinery Middle East Awards, the Volvo L220H Wheel Loader was shortlisted in the ‘Earthmoving Machinery of the Year’ category.

According to the manufacturer, the new partnership is aimed at inspiring the very youngest generation of budding engineers, children aged three and up, who are often fascinated by huge construction vehicles.

Arvid Rinaldo, Brand Partnership at Volvo CE, says: “We’re thrilled to see this partnership with BRIO come to life. This is the first time these two Scandinavian brands have collaborated, but we have forged a strong bond, united by a number of shared values including quality, safety, a passion for exceptional design and a commitment to environmental responsibility. Thanks to a close relationship between teams across the two brands, the BRIO models have been thoughtfully created to align with Volvo CE’s brand identity.”

Construction machines are popular with children due to their impressive size, bold colors, and the work that they do: digging holes, lifting, transporting heavy loads and helping to build the world we live in, the statement from Volvo CE said.

Arvid adds: “We are always looking for ways to encourage and boost engineering talent in children and with these BRIO construction kits we’re providing a fun way to explore the world of work, practice hand-eye coordination and develop a love of design and building. With this initiative, we’re helping our youngest demographic to explore the fascinating world of construction through play.”

In June 2022, Volvo CE said it delivered an industry-first, a construction machine built using fossil-free steel. Later in the month, it was announced that Volvo Penta D16 engines would power the Sweden Rock Festival using eco-friendly HVO fuel.
