NLCIL inducts ₹68 crore bucket-wheel excavator - The Hindu

Heavy duty: The new bucket-wheel excavator of 700 litre capacity commissioned by the Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd at Mine-II.

Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Ltd (NLCIL) has put into operation a new bucket-wheel excavator of 700 litre capacity at Mine-II.

Susheel Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Coal, formally commissioned the excavator, a specialised mining equipment. On the occasion, Mr. Kumar laid stress on ensuring accident-free operations while accomplishing targets.

According to a press note, the excavator was supplied on turnkey basis by Tenova India (P) Ltd, Chennai at a cost of ₹68 crore.

The work order for the mining equipment was issued by NLCIL in July 2015 and encompassed design, manufacture, assembly/erection of all mechanical, structural, electrical components, testing, commissioning and handing over.

Though the contract period was 36 months from the date of issue of work order, it was commissioned five months ahead of the scheduled date.

All the main structural components of the equipment were indigenously manufactured, which is noteworthy. The machine has the capacity to deliver an output of 1,400 cubic m per hour.

Sarat Kumar Acharya, CMD, NLCIL, Directors, Rakesh Kumar, Subir Das, P. Selvakumar, V. Thangapandian, R. Vikraman, Chief Vigilance Officer T. Venkatasubramanian, senior officials and representatives of trade unions participated.
